Detailed Information:
By turning the crank of this small music box, you can enjoy the melody of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ode to Joy.
Friedrich Schiller began writing "Ode to Joy" in 1785. Based on Schiller's lines, Ludwig van Beethoven set the poem to music in his 9th Symphony, which is one of his most famous works and one of the most significant musical pieces in general. Ludwig van Beethoven composed it between 1817 and 1824. Beethoven spent a long time contemplating the idea of creating a work that would pay tribute to universal brotherhood and human joy.
Beethoven's 9th Symphony, including "Ode to Joy", has left a lasting legacy in the field of classical music and beyond. The melody of "Ode to Joy" was adopted as the anthem of the Council of Europe in 1972 and later, in 1985, it became the official anthem of the European Union, symbolizing unity and peace in Europe.
The heroic melody sounds even stronger when you remove the small music mechanism from the box. Since the mechanism is mounted on a small wooden board, this music box will develop its sound especially well when you press it against a large resonating body, such as a table, chair or box. The barrel mechanism has a long lifespan.
