Clove essential oil blends well with bergamot, cardamom, cinnamon, grapefruit, lavender, lemon, nutmeg, orange, peppermint and Ylang Ylang. A strong mental tonic that can help ward off drowsiness is prepared by mixing with peppermint.

Clove essential oil has been proclaimed as a skin irritant. For topical use, heavily dilute blends in a carrier oil. Always test a small amount of essential oil first for sensitivity or an allergic reaction.

If pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before use. KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN; high doses of Clove oil can be fatal, especially for small children.

It can act as a blood thinner and should be avoided if you are taking prescription blood thinners such as coumarin or warfarin.

Way of use

Inhalation

Dilute to 1% or less in a carrier oil as Clove can irritate the skin. Great for massaging sore joints. A drop or two of Clove oil on a cotton swab can be applied directly to aching teeth and gums to relieve pain.

Internal use

Add one or two drops to 100 ml of water and gargle. Clove oil can also be used internally in the same way.
